7. Course Description:

This course explores the philosophies, theories and history of the science of nursing. Nursing theory and other theories are applied to practice using evidence-based innovations with focus on global setting. The roles of educator, clinician, and manager are investigated with emphasis on the contributions of the theorists. Nursing theories and other theories are evaluated and analyzed for their usefulness and applicability to nursing practice, education, and administration.

9. Course Goals:
At the end of this course the students will able to:

1. Discuss the role of knowledge development in the evolution of the discipline of nursing, nursing science, and advanced nursing practice.
2. Analyze the congruency among assumptions, concepts, and propositions in middle range theories in nursing and related disciplines.
3. Discuss the use of theory in evidence-based practice, ethical decision making, and research.
4. Examine evidence from practice to develop and refine theoretical perspectives
5. Synthesize a Concept Congruent with a Nursing or other Theory that is appropriate to nursing.

5. Explain the Assumptions, Concepts and Principles of Nursing and Other Theories
6. Demonstrate application of an appropriate nursing model in practice, research, education or administration
7. Evaluate nursing theories in relation to practice, research, education or administration
