Description: leukemia is A malignant neoplastic disorder of the blood – forming tissues it can be classified according to its predominant cell type and level of maturity as follows:
A. lympo : involving the lymphoid or lymphatic system
B. Myelo of bone marrow origin
C. Blastic and acute : involving immature cells.
D. Cytic and chronic : involving mature cells.
Acute leukemia : which represent 98% of cases of childhood leukemia Include:
A. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) : accounts for 80% of acute leukemia in children.
B. Acute non lymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) : accounts for 15% of acute leukemia in children.
c. Acute undifferentiated leukemia (AUL) : the last common type of acute leukemia.
Chronic leukemia accounts for only 2% of childhood leukemia.
