Pain
Pain :is unpleasant sensation produce by harmful stimuli .
Nursing assessment :
1-Recognizing whether the pain is acute or chronic.
2- Identifying the phases of experience the pain
3-Observing the patients behavioral responses
4-Identifying the factors that influence the pain and response to it .
Acute pain
Is defined as an episode of pain that lasts form a split second to about 6 months
-Brief duration
-May range in intensity from mild to severe.
Chronic pain
Is defined simply as pain that lasts for 6 month or longer
-Prolonged duration
-May assume the characteristic of chronic pain long the 6 month
Degree of pain :
1-mild
2-moderate
3-severe
4-very severe
Phases of pain experience :
The patient may experience all phases
1-The anticipation of pain
2-The sensation of pain
3-The aftermath of pain
Factors that influence the pain experience :
1- Initiation of pain impulse (chemical ,mechanical and thermal)
2-Perception of pain
3-Response to pain
Nursing care of pain:
1-Determination the severity of pain and depends on patient .
2-let the patient to express his feeling
3- Observe patient reaction to the pain
4-The nurse should explain about drug benefit to pain control
5-Limit visitor to let the patient to be quiet to sleep
6- limit the patient movement to reduce pain
7-Support area of operation during cough
8-Explain to the patient impotent take deep breathing after operation
